Janet comes to Christ Church United with a strong history of making music in a faith setting. She has served a number of churches as Organist and Music Director, always with a focus on creating culturally diverse programs that draw upon a wealth of varied instrumentation, styles, vocal techniques and congregational engagement.
From Taize chants to Bach, Gospel to hymns, ensembles to solos, from leading the congregation to directing the joyful music of our choral singers, Voices, Janet enjoys stretching the concept of music in worship to include a broad range of new and traditional practices.
Janet considers her job as Minister of Music to be one of enabling others to hear and make music: people of all ages and skill levels, people coming from their busy lives to a class or rehearsal, a concert or a Sunday service, people who believe they can’t sing or people who have been singing all their lives, people experiencing music as a rich, wonderful language with which to share our faith and love.
Janet holds degrees in Organ Performance and in Poetry. She has played, taught and directed choirs in numerous churches, facilitated concert series, accompanied choral groups, and sung with the world music group Village Harmony, as well as the auditioned Concord Chorale. Her poems can be found in numerous publications.
